Diphtheria antitoxin (DAT) is a medication made up of antibodies used to prevent and/or treat diphtheria infection in persons exposed to the disease. It is a blood product containing equine (horse) protein. The antitoxin binds to the circulating toxin produced by Corynebacterium diphtheriae and stops the progression of disease and further damage.
